Searching for references on I.W. Bison or Brian Smith

Do you live in a Homeowners Association that is going through a special assessment project?

Brian Smith of IW Bison is a construction project manager in California. We understand he has pitched his work all around Northern California. He has worked in Contra Costa County, Alameda County, San Mateo County. Does anyone have experience dealing with Brian Smith, Roxanne Smith or any other employee of IW Bison, or hired IW Bison for consulting work?

We'd like to know good references or bad references for what IW Bison does.

  1. I'm surprised there are no other responses entered here? It's my experience that after working with and observing the workings of Brian Smith over approximately three years, that his professed thirty years of general contracting knowledge is extremely narrow, and shallow. I give him credit for getting the big bucks contracts, but I don't see highly ethical behavior. Poor communication skills, but very controlled. In short Brisan Smith stands for BS.
If you hire this firm, you will likely regret it.

  3. My experience with Brian Smith is that to do business with I.W.Bison in the loop is the quick Road to bankruptcy. HOA management will be induced to enter into renovation contracts that not only can they not afford but the final project cost to them may be double that which they were led to believe.

    1. They came in with full knowledge of what to expect, knowing how inexperienced most HOA boards are. They most expertly soft sold themselves as "expense limiters." Failed to accurately assess the total damage estimated replacements, then recommended the most expensive alternatives to repair in total rejection of good construction best practices. In other words rather than limiting expenses, they ran the project costs up about 30-40%. All bad news!

  4. To do business with this Management Company involved is one of the biggest mistakes that an HOA or Contractor can ever make

  5. Brian Smith has persuaded our HOA to pass a massive assessment. For some owners, the assessment is 15% of the value of their homes. Many homeowners will be unable to pay this assessment. Has anyone been successful in getting this guy to move on? Or is a recall of the board or legal action our only options?

    1. Once they have their hooks into your HOA Board, it becomes very difficult to expel them. Not hard to do legally, but extremely hard for the Board to admit they've made a terrible mistake.

Changing Board members may be required.

  7. Brian Smith IW Bison (now CIDology Inc.) Is a sham. The post above is exactly correct (pure BS). I worked for the company and was burned. I left my job to work for this company and once he got me to work for him pulled all the things out from under me that we has set out BEFORE I was hired and I was left with nothing. My life is still recovering from this companies unethical practices.

    1. Yes appears he’s a crook. Does he normally team up with an attorney named Mr.Fong? He appears to be a traveling horse and pony con show with Mr Fong!

    2. I'm so sorry to read this. You may know me. Regardless, it is a shame that the laws don't seem to catch up, or prevent anyone from unethical business practices.

Out of court legal settlement are common with gag order = mutual non disclosures which get the plaintiff money sooner than a court trial, but then shield the defendant from public witness.

When a HOA is looking to research a vendor/consultant, they should be able to learn the truth in order to protect their members. In the current system, that is not always possible. And potential employees need to know who's looking to hire them. Ethics is under rated for importance!
